Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh city (HCMBIOTECH) was established in 2004 according to Decision No. 161/2004/QD-UB dated July 2, 2004 by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
HCMBIOTECH officially started operating in January 2005.
HCMBIOTECH is managed by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City.
The Prime Minister issued Decree No. 1670/QĐ – TTg on September 28, 2015 to invest in and develop HCMBiotech into a national – level biotechnology center in Southern Vietnam by 2025
HCMBIOTECH is located on National Way 1, Trung My Tay Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, 12 kilometers northwestwards from the Municipal center. HCMBIOTECH is built on a 23-hectare campus.

Research, apply and transfer biotechnology to serve agriculture, environmental treatment, food industry and medicine
Receive and implement modern biotechnology processes and techniques (gene technology, plant cell culture technology, microbiology technology, fermentation technology…) to serve the production, preservation and processing of agricultural products and environmental treatment
Train technicians in biotechnology
Produce and commercialize biotechnology products

Plant Biotechnology:
1. Selecting and creating new plant varieties
2. Preventing and treating diseases on crops
3. Procedure of micro-propagation and cultivation of plans

5. Preserving Genomic resource
Aquatic biotechnology
1. Develop vaccines to prevent serious diseases in aquatic animals
2. Develop disease detection kits, biological products – probiotics for aquaculture.
3. Improve the quality of aquatic breeds with gene technology
Human and Animal cell Biotechnology
1. Application of stem cells in Regenerative medicine:
Creating products for recovering damaged tissues in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, bone and joint damage, and skin loss.
2. Development of stem cell extract products:
Stem cell cosmetics, stem cell wound healing product
Biotechnology serving the environment and bioenergy
1. Development biological products to prevent diseases and stimulate plant growth.
2. Select and modify microbial strains with gene technology to treat waste that causes environmental pollution.
3. Research the process of producing bio-alcohol and other forms of biofuels from agricultural waste.
